Accommodations

We did Florence for Fun, which I highly recommend for reasons I will express later.  Our hotel, Hotel Maria Munich was like decently nice and right near Springfest.  No subways or public transportation required.  Perfect.

Food

We ate exclusively from the Springfest tents.  I loved: the 3 foot long hot dogs, cotton candy, candy apples.

On the way down from the Neuschwanstein Castle they had a stand for “snowballs” which are balls of fried dough covered in powered sugar.  Like a zepolli, but so much better.  Get one.  Or three.

Beer Garden in the English Gardens: In this gorgeous park they have a huge outdoor “Beer Garden” where they have all types of German food and beer.  The food was delicious, and the park gorgeous.  Can’t lose.

Activities

Neuschwanstein Castle: Outside of Munich but our tour took us here on the way and it is one of the reasons why I would recommend FlorenceForFun or another trip that includes this tour.  The castle was built by Ludwig II of Bavaria for his secret lover, otherwise known as Richard Wagner(yes, the composer).  It is unbelieveable.  It’s like the Neverland Ranch of Bavaria (I just made that up now) and was actually the inspiration for the castle in Sleeping Beauty.

Mike’s Bike Tour: The best, also included with FlorenceForFun.  You will learn so much about Munich and go to this amazing place to eat typical German food and see the following things:

English Garden

Munich Frauenkirche: A very pretty church in this square where Hitler’s March on Munich occurred.  You will learn a lot about this March and also the anti-Nazi protesting that took place in that square.
